Spiritual Protection
Spiritual Protection
In a previous article, I spoke to you about protecting yourself spiritually but why do we need to do this?
Spirits are around us every hour of every day. Most of us do not see, hear or feel them although a lot of us have an inkling that something is there and in our quieter moments we may even register that something ’strange’ is going on. Our own guides, including our Guardian Angel, are always there for us, hovering around us waiting to help but other Spirits do not necessarily ‘see’ us (although our own guides always do). When we start actively connecting to Spirit by developing our gifts we start to shine (on a Spiritual level). Our light shines out like a beacon through the ether and we become more visible to Spirit which makes it easier for us to connect with them which is, after all, what we are trying to do when we commit to our own Spiritual development. However, we shine out to all entities, good and bad. When the Spirits see this beacon, they may wish to latch onto that light in which case we may end up with an Entity Attachment and that entity can then influence us in our life without us even knowing… in some ways they try to live a life through us.
But what is Spirit? Who are we referring to when we say Spirit? In simple terms, Spirit, or The Spirits is a collective term used for entities that are around us but which we cannot normally see. These entities can be the souls of the dead which may or may not have passed into the light (including animals), Angels, Demons and Nature Spirits, and other entities that have never been incarnated on this Earth. Some of these Spirits are lovely and helpful, and some are not so lovely or helpful, but whether they are helpful or not, do we really want them piggy-backing along in our Auras? Entity attachment is much more common than anyone thinks and as such we need to protect ourselves from it as much as possible, hence why we put protection in place prior to working with Spirit.
So how do we protect ourselves? My previous article talked about the ‘White Light’ protection in which you visualise white light coming down from the heavens and surrounding your body in an egg shape which goes around the top of your head right down to beneath your feet. Make sure the ‘egg’ is complete so that negative energies cannot enter, then ask Spirit for their protection at this time. This is a simple yet powerful form of protection which only requires a few minutes per day to put in place.
Sometimes, you may feel the need for extra protection when you are in a specific situation, and there are many crystals that you can carry or wear for this purpose. Amber is a universal protection stone and was used extensively by the Romans for this purpose, it also looks good as jewellery. Jade, Citrine, Amethyst and Moonstone are also protective and can be used as jewellery. Small crystals can also be placed in your pocket or in your bra for women that don’t have pockets. I have a lot of crystal jewellery and I also place small Black Tourmaline nuggets in front of each of my windows and doors in order to deflect negativity. Search the internet for the many protection crystals and take a look through the possibilities to find a crystal that you are drawn to.
Herbs and common plants can also prevent negative energy: aloe, barley, basil, bay leaf, cactus, carnation, chamomile, cinnamon, clove, cumin, curry, dill, eucalyptus, fennel, frankincense, garlic, ginseng, ivy, lavender, myrrh, onion, parsley, pepper, peppermint, rosemary, sage, thyme, violet are just a few of the possibilities here. I have aloe plants on my window sills to prevent anything negative from entering through those openings, but you can also place the dried herbs in little bowls about the house. You can make little herbal sachets or "charm bags" to hang on doors or tuck in a drawer or carry with you. Place one in your car for protection while travelling.
Smudging is a way to cleanse your environment and yourself. You can buy or make a smudge stick out of herbs which you then burn and waft the smoke around yourself, your house or whatever else you wish to protect. White sage is the usual herb used for this form of protection although others are available. Incense can be used in a similar way. A word of caution though, don’t waft too near to your smoke alarms.
One of the best ways to protect yourself is to ask your Guardian Angel and guides to keep you safe. I always say a little prayer as I do this:
Guardian Angel, I ask for your presence here today,
I give thanks for your presence here today,
And I ask that you help me in all that I do,
Please keep me safe, and guide me to do what I need to do today.
I thank you for your help.
I then do the white light visualisation detailed above. You don’t have to say those exact words but I find it helps to have some structure to it. Why not make up your own wording but just remember to ask for exactly what you want and to thank your Angel at the end. I include my children, animals, home, cars and everyone that I know and love in this too.
Finally, Reiki is a great form of protection. Traditionally, Reiki is used to heal yourself and others but it can also help with Spiritual Development. For those of you that don’t know, Reiki means Universal Energy. The Reiki practitioner uses the energy that is all around us to channel through themselves and into the recipient (sometimes the practitioner is working on themselves and therefore becomes both practitioner and recipient), in order to heal them. In doing so the aura of the practitioner and recipient becomes charged with energy which makes it difficult for any negativity to enter. Take a course in Reiki (which is generally inexpensive) or if you know a practitioner, ask them for their help.
There are other forms of protection from talismans to protection spells which often require a witchcraft practitioner to create, they can be expensive or homemade. It’s up to you to choose the ones that suit you. But make sure that you use what you choose. Connecting with Spirit is a wonderful thing but care should always be taken not to pick up something extra while you are working.
