Change Your Mind to Change Your Life
Change Your Mindset to Change Your Life
The mind is incredibly powerful and affects our lives in many ways.
This series focusses on affirmations and positive thinking with a view to changing the negative mindset that we develop throughout life, to a more positive one in order to help us achieve our dreams.
I CAN’T AFFORD IT!
Does this sound like you? How many times a day do you say these four little words? How long have you been saying it for?
These four words are incredibly damaging because the more we say or think them, the more they become true. And the more entrenched we become in our own version of poverty.
The laws of attraction say that we attract what we think about often (and no, thinking constantly about Tom Hardy is not going to bring him to your door!). It isn’t just the thought that is important but how we feel when we say or think it.
How do you feel when you think or say, ‘I can’t afford it!’ Do you feel sad, or angry? Do you feel a sense of loss or longing? More importantly, do you do anything about being able to afford it?
Whenever you find yourself thinking ‘I can’t afford it!’ First consider whether it is something that you really do want or need and if it is, change the thought to ‘what can I do to be able to afford it?’ Say this to yourself any time you find yourself saying ‘I can’t afford it!’ The more often you say it, the quicker positivity will come in.
Then listen for some answers to come in. You see, when you change the thought from the negative to the positive, you attract positive energy to come into your life. And asking yourself, ‘what can I do to be able to afford it?’ Changes the negative ‘I can’t’ to the more positive ‘I can, I just need to find a solution’.
Listen to your thoughts. Ideas will come to you. It could be along the lines of having a clear-out and selling everything you haven’t used for 2 years or more (de-cluttering your home is an excellent way to attract new, positive energy into your house), or renting a room out to someone, or renting garage space, selling old vinyl records, selling old mobile phones, getting a second job. Think outside of the box, challenge yourself. There are opportunities out there that can earn you a lot of money, all you must do is take a chance.
Try it today:
‘What can I do to be able to afford it?’
‘What can I do to be able to afford it?’
‘What can I do to be able to afford it?’
What Are Affirmations, and Do They Work?
Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes.
Affirmations are a form of exercise for your mind. We workout our body to build it up and make it healthy, and our mind also needs exercises to keep it healthy. These positive mental repetitions can reprogram our thinking patterns so that, over time, we begin to think – and act – differently.
How to Use Positive Affirmations
You can use affirmations in any situation where you'd like to see a positive change take place in your life. These might include times when you want to:
- Raise your confidence before presentations or important meetings.
- Control negative feelings such as frustration, anger, or impatience.
- Improve your self-esteem.
- Finish projects you've started.
- Improve your productivity.
- Overcome a bad habit.
Affirmations may be more effective when you pair them with other positive thinking and goal-setting techniques.
For instance, affirmations work particularly well alongside visualisation. So, instead of just picturing the change you'd like to see, you can also write it down or say it aloud using a positive affirmation.
Affirmations are also useful when setting personal goals. Once you've identified the goals you'd like to achieve, affirmative statements can help you to keep yourself motivated in order to achieve them.
The power of affirmations lies in repeating them to yourself regularly. It's useful to recite your affirmations several times a day (have them pop up in your notifications!). You also need to repeat your affirmations as soon as you engage in the negative thought or behaviour that you want to overcome.
